PARIS (Reuters) – Renault and Nissan need to streamline decision-making in the automotive alliance and boost cross-ownership of companies not part of their plans, Renault's president said in comments released Sunday.

Japan's Nissan Motor and French Renault, along with its junior ally Mitsubishi Motors, agreed last week to reorganize the alliance to put them on an equal footing.

"I concluded that we need to significantly simplify our decision-making process in the alliance," Renault President Jean-Dominique Senard said in an interview published on Le Figaro's website.

"I want it to be narrow and composed of people who have the power to make decisions in every business," he added.

The dismissal of Carlos Ghosn, who saved Nissan from bankruptcy in 1999, the head of the alliance has raised uncertainty about its future.

Senard said the increase in cross-shareholdings was not in the study.

"The teams around me are not mobilized on this subject," he said. "The only fusion I'm working on is our cultures.
