TOKYO (Kyodo) – The Nissan Motor Co. announced on Wednesday that it would invest 3 billion rand ($ 214 million) in a South African plant to increase the production of the Navara van.
Nissan has announced plans to start production at the Rosslyn plant in Pretoria in 2020, creating 1,200 new jobs at the site and in the local supply chain.
The move will add 30,000 units to the current annual factory production volume of 35,000, he added.
Nissan plans to export the factory-made van across the African continent. The Navara recorded global sales of 231,435 units in 2018, up 6% from the previous year, making it the Japanese manufacturer's best-selling pickup in the world.
