The Kingmakers and Council of Elders of the Toh / Tovie Clan of Mafi Adidome and associated communities have announced the appointment of a new Chief for Adidome.
The new leader was inducted as the Ottoman Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman V. The induction took place in Adidome over the weekend.
After going through customary and traditional processes, the chief was outside and introduced to the large family and clan and the entire Adidome township in a colorful procession through the main streets ending with a durbar in the market place.
The induction and exterior of the new chief was carried out and assisted by the Council of Elders of the Toh / Tovie Clan, supported by the Mafi Paramountcy and the three military wings of Mafi (Awanutorwo), and were assisted by several chiefs of the mafi state and representative chiefs of the Toh / Tovie clan from Anglo and Togo.
The new Chief, known in private life as Emmanuel James Atiemo Fiagbenu, is the Senior Corporate Affairs Manager of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA).
He is the eldest son of the late Hlortator Seth Kwabla Fiagbenu (former chief of the Toh / Tovie clan of Adidome) and the grandson of the legendary Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman III, the late Fia of Adidome.
The new chief, born and raised in Adidome, lived with his grandfather as a child and is conversant with chiefdom affairs and accustomed to family, clan and township issues.
Speaking at the reception, Adidome’s new Fia pledged to focus on the development of Adidome.
He said, “I look forward to working with community leaders, the district assembly, NGOs, government and businesses to get the city, which is the capital of Tongu Central District, back on track. dynamic city that it was during the reign of Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman III.
He also said during his grandfather’s reign; the city attracted the interest and attention of the government of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, which led to the establishment of institutions such as state farms, workers’ brigade, animal husbandry and several other public institutions and private sector ranging from agro-related entities to health institutions such as Ameyi Farms (Gbedemah Farms) to Adidome Hospital.
“My grandfather’s goal, who lived from 1897 to 1973, was to make Adidome one of the most attractive towns in the Volta. It’s possible.”
He said: “My goal is education, youth development / empowerment and business development”.
He pledged to implement responsive and accountable governance in an open leadership style that enables all key stakeholders to work together towards the new era of prosperity for the people of Adidome and the entire Mafi state. .
The new AIF said it would work to create a scholarship fund for bright students from Adidome and its surrounding cities, while putting skills development and youth employment at the center of its concerns.
Speaking at the outdoor ceremony, Togbe Anorba Sasraku IV, the head of the central wing (Dome) of Awanutorwo, who introduced the new chief to the audience, pledged the support of the Mafi Traditional Council and said that ‘he was willing to do whatever it takes to make him successful.
Commenting on the nomination on behalf of Toh / Tovie Clan Chief, Senior Member of the Council of Elders and Kingmakers, former Deputy Minister of Communications and former CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Dr Gideon Quarcoo, said the Council of Elders and the Kingmakers of the Toh / Tovie clan were happy to see traditional rites and investiture unfolding peacefully following all procedures.
He said he looks forward to seeing the community grow under the new leader as the whole family and clan support him.
The Toh / Tovie clan is one of the largest clans in the traditional Mafi area and is said to be one of the first Mafi settlers after separating from their brothers Anlo and Ave and after escaping and having migrated from Nortsia.
