Members of the South Nkoranza Municipality Assembly comprising 29 elected officials and 13 appointees rejected Ms. Diana Attaa Kissiwaa, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s candidate for the post of Chief of the Municipal Executive (MCE).
In an election conducted and supervised by the municipal office of the electoral commission in Nkoranza in the Bono Est region, Madame Kissiwaa voted 20 which represented 47.62 percent against 22 which were 52.38 percent of the valid votes cast. by the 42 members of the Assembly.
Mr. Kwasi Adu Gyan, the regional minister, previously reminded members of the assembly to prioritize the progress of the municipality by confirming the candidacy, since he added that this was the main reason why President Akufo -Addo had named her.
Mr Adu Gyan said socio-economic development did not have partisan colors but only thrived on unity, saying Assembly members’ failure to confirm the candidate was a disadvantage for advancement political, social and economic of the municipality.
The Ghanaian News Agency (GNA) later observed that part of the population who had invaded the Assembly premises were jubilant over the disapproval of the candidate by members of the Assembly.
A number of them who spoke to the GNA on condition of anonymity claimed that she “is a dictator,” saying this has greatly contributed to the New Patriotic Party’s loss of parliamentary seats in Nkoranza North and South. for the benefit of the National Democratic Opposition Congress in the 2020 elections.
