NLA warns public against lotto fraudsters

Accra, March 30, GNA –
The National Lottery Authority (NLA) warns the public against
activities and operations of lotto fraudsters, miscreants of social media and
Illegal lottery operators and agents.

These fraudsters and
according to the authorities, the miscreants of social media use radio, television, online,
newspapers, social media platforms and other means of communication such as the telephone
calls, SMS and e-mails to defraud unsuspecting people.

A statement issued by
the ALN Public Relations Department, with a copy to the Ghana News Agency
in Accra on the weekend said: "some of these lotto fraudsters and social media
the disbelievers set up Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media pages using
photos and names of the general manager and staff of the ALN to scam people.

"These scammers use
smart tactics to convince the public to make mobile money transfers to
in exchange for winning lottery numbers.

The statement says
these lotto fraudsters are largely supported by some illegal lotto operators
and agents and have always been to misinform the public to have access
the winning NLA lottery numbers before the draw and customers must not stake the NLA
products because they automatically know the numbers they bet on the
POST machines and terminals and the Authority will ensure that
these numbers are not drawn.

He told the Authority
Attention is also drawn to the fact that Alpha Lotto uses POST to charge a commission
above the ALN Commission.

"The Authority would
note that NLA has not authorized or authorized Alpha Lotto to use its
own POST and platform to generate branded electronic tickets, adding, Alpha
Lotteries are illegal and the NLA is taking steps to address them immediately.

The statement says that
The NLA neither authorized nor designated individuals or groups of individuals to
to offer winning lotto numbers to the public because lotto is a game of chance and

statement, the NLA has not yet introduced its online lottery and
that any form of online lottery currently operating is illegal and does not have
approval of the Authority.

defrauded by these lotto fraudsters, miscreants of social media and illegal lotto
operators and agents.

The statement however
added that the ALN, together with the relevant security agencies,
take pragmatic steps to help limit the activities of these lotteries
fraudsters, social media miscreants and illegal lotto operators and agents.
