Yaw Boadu-Ayisboafoh, President of the NMC
The National Media Commission (NMC) has asked the police administration to act immediately against police officers who badaulted New Times Corporation staff.
Yaw Boadu-Ayisboafoh, president of the NMC, also asked the police administration to arrest the perpetrators without waiting for the victims to identify the police involved in the act.
The badault would have occurred as a result of the officer's refusal to arrest him after the unregistered motorcycle he was driving had hit the New Times Corporation's vehicle and that the biker had tried to run away.
According to the statement, the vehicle of the New Times Corporation caught up with the runner and a misunderstanding ensued. Other police officers joined their colleague to hit the reporters.
According to the same source, one of the wounded journalists would have been arrested for hours, while one of them would have been hospitalized after the attack.
According to the statement, the Commission is of the opinion that since the journalists were brought to the police station and arrested, the police would have no difficulty in identifying the police officers involved.
He added that the investigation should go further in the conduct of the station manager as to the reason for the detention of the journalists.
