Kingsley Kanu, a brother of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, claimed that the secessionist’s British passport was still in Kenya.

Kingsley said he spoke with Nnamdi while in Kenya, before he “disappeared”.

He claims that the head of IPOB was walking around when he was arrested and taken away without his documents.

“I spoke to him on the phone, he was fine in Nairobi. His associates said he was out, that he had not taken his papers with him; so he had no intention of going anywhere. Then, all of a sudden, we see him parading in handcuffs in Abuja.

“We hold the Nigerian government and the Kenyan government to account. The UK government, they know what’s going on, ”he told the UK Guardian.

Kingsley also said British officials had contacted their family and legal team and feared he would be mistreated in detention.

The report also states that the evidence at its disposal proves that Kanu entered Kenya this year on his British passport with a visa expiring in June, adding that “his British passport remains in Kenya”.

Kanu does not have a Nigerian passport according to his family, who insist he has renounced Nigerian citizenship on his broadcasts.
