No beds in hospitals but you beg for GHC100 to build the cathedral

Builsa South MP Dr Clement Apaak criticized the president and his finance minister for calling on Ghanaians to donate 100 Ghc each for the construction of the national cathedral.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, during the presentation of the 2021 Mid-Year Review Budget and Economic Policy Statement, urged everyone, including Members of Parliament, to donate $ 100 Ghc each for construction.

Dubbed “Ketewa biara nsua”, around one million Ghanaians are expected to donate GH 100 per month to the controversial project.

He noted that Ghanaians can support the noble cause by dialing the shortcode * 979 #.

But this call, according to Dr. Apaak, is an inappropriate and terrible call.

According to him, US President Joe Biden has called for the donation of $ 100 to US citizens who take COVID bites, but President Akufo-Addo has called on Ghanaian citizens to donate GH100 to build a cathedral while we do not do not have hospital beds, lack of educational infrastructure, lack of textbooks, poor roads, and Akufo-Addo says what? He said Biden had just called on the state, county, municipal government and businesses in the United States to donate $ 100 to every American who decides to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

That, he says, will inspire the more than 90 million Americans to take the jabs to do so.

Also, don’t forget that Biden has granted tax exemptions and incentives to American businesses and offered welfare benefits to American citizens to ease the hardships associated with Covid-19. Rather, Akufo-Addo imposed taxes on Ghanaian businesses and Ghanaians after “winning” the elections.
