The government of Ghana has asked the general public to disregard some traditional media and social media publications claiming that the leaders of some state-owned enterprises have been invited to retire.

Earlier reports baderted that the good CEOs had been released until March 2019 to leave their positions.

According to the report, CEOs have exceeded the mandatory retirement age of 60, hence the directive to return home.

They were appointed as CEO of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, more commonly known as Sir John, 65 years old; Eugene Ofosuhene, 67 – Controller and General Accountant; Kofi Jumah, 68 – CEO of Ghana Industrial Holding Corporation (GIHOC); Isaac Osei, 67 – CEO of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR); Kwame Owusu, 67 – CEO of the Ghana Maritime Authority; Anthony Nsiah-Asare, 65 – Director General, Ghana Health Service; Samuel Annor, 64 – CEO, National Health Insurance Authority; and K. K. Sarpong, 65 – CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

However, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said Monday, January 28, 2019: "The government recommends to the general public and institutional actors to ignore the list of CEOs who were dismissed because of age.Commitments between the government and CEOs of state-owned enterprises are common. "

The statement adds: "Even if the president still has the prerogative to engage or disengage the services of the directors of state-owned companies, he exercises those powers after the required commitments.

"If the President, at any time, chooses to disengage the services of any Director General, this will be done as always, according to the established procedure.

"It is therefore advisable for the general public not to take into account media reports that these people have been ordered to leave their duties because of their age."
