Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool’s famous comeback against Barcelona would never have happened without the fans at Anfield.
The Reds came back 3-0 on aggregate to knock out the Catalan giants from the Champions League in 2019, winning 4-0 at Anfield in a memorable game.
With matches now being played behind closed doors due to Covid-19, Klopp has realized the comeback would never have happened without the fans.
Speaking to Lockdown Live, Klopp said the brief comeback from fans has once again made players and staff realize what they’ve been missing.
“I never really thought about it, to be honest,” he said.
“It’s just like that, we can’t change it. We’ve had three games now with 2,000 fans, which was really cool and showed us how good it can be and how good it could be.
“Again, now it’s kind of like ‘now we miss it.’ Before that, we got used to it, then we had 2000 supporters and everyone thought it was great and hoped for the next step.
“It didn’t happen and now we still miss it.
“Football wouldn’t be the same without the supporters. Not only for the atmosphere but for the game, they are a game-changer.

“A good atmosphere helps the players to play a very, good game. An example for us, could we have won 4-0 against Barcelona at home without supporters? No chance.
“I would really say there is no way. With the crowd it was possible. It shows.
“We could have won the game 1-0 and then Barcelona did it, but it was two things – it gave us a boost and it gave them a problem.
“We had 60,000 plus 11 in the field, very positive people, loaded against 11 less positive people, so it was not a fair competition.
“That’s what I really miss. I know we’ll get it back, the only problem is that by then we obviously have to work a bit without them.
“We are all doing our best and I have seen a lot of good football games without supporters, so the teams are doing great, we have to create things on our own. We are doing our best but I hope it doesn’t will not last forever. “
