Local Government Minister Dan Botwe called for calm following the announcement of the list of heads of the metropolitan, municipal and district executive (MMDCE).
Releasing the list at a Sunday afternoon press conference, he said the MMDCE’s position is at the service of the nation, therefore, people whose preferred choices have not been selected should not be seated. ‘engage in unrest.
He explained that “… as far as we are concerned, we aspire to serve our homeland and if an opportunity is not given at some point to serve, there can be no reason why there should be unrest. I think if you really wanted to serve then there is absolutely no reason why you should be involved in disorderly conduct ”
He said the list has been forwarded to regional ministers and the electoral commission so that the approval process can begin.
The list contains 260 MMDCE to lead the 260 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) in the 16 political administrative regions of the country.
38 of them are women, the remaining 222 being men.
The Greater Accra region had 8 MMDCE women, followed by the East and Ashanti regions with five (5) and four (4) respectively.
Mr. Botwe further said that the regional directors of the electoral commission will contact the presiding members of the various assemblies on Monday and begin the process of confirming the presidential candidates.
In the Central Region, Ernest Arthur was retained as Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive while Solomon Appiah was appointed for the post of KEEA.
For the Municipality of Upper Denkyira East, Ebenezer Forson has been appointed to replace Mr. Isaac Awuah and Mr. Richmond Kodua occupies the seat of Upper Denkyira West.
Meanwhile, Ghana Police Service Director General of Public Affairs ACP Kwesi Ofori, who spoke in an interview on Monday and monitored by ATLFMNEWS, said police across the country were on high alert. to arrest anyone who breaks the law after the announcement of the MMDCE candidates.
According to him, the police have set up checkpoints and are strategically positioned in district assemblies across the country and will not resist punishing anyone who breaks the law because of their disagreement with the candidates.
