WILSON COUNTY, TN (WSMV) – A person from Wilson Central High School has tested positive for active TB, according to an email from Travis Mayfield, obtained by News4.

The person involved is no longer present at the school since the positive test and it is unclear if this person was a student or a staff member. About 450 people may have been infected with TB and will have tests at school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

A community meeting will be held Wednesday, January 23 at 18h. in the auditorium of Wilson Central High School with officials from the state health department and school officials to answer questions.

"It is important to note that while TB may be contagious, it is primarily transmitted to people who have close personal contact with an infected patient on a regular basis," Mayfield said in an email.

A separate email was sent to the parents of the 450 students to be tested.

"If you do NOT receive a separate notification, it means that your child does not need to be tested yet," said Mayfield director.

Mayfield said the school had changed air filters in all clbadrooms and that all school buses serving Wilson Central High School had been cleaned up.

This is a story in development.
