The Director General of the Metropolis of Accra, Mr. Mohammed Adjei Sowah, assured traders in Opera Square that the Assembly had no intention of moving or disrupting their business activities which will weigh on traders.
He said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is committed to creating an enabling atmosphere for every trader to operate peacefully and contribute to national development.
Mr Sowah gave this assurance when he led a delegation from the Ghana Traders Union (GUTA) on Monday to assess the demolition of shops in Opera Square, which had created unrest among some members. of the Electricity Distributors Association of Ghana.
He said the demolition had not been sanctioned by WADA and that the Assembly would not take a decision that would impose financial hardship on traders.
“We’re here basically to look at the situation, and then with the management of GUTA, we make a decision, keeping in mind not to move any traders or store owners.
“I met the chairman of GUTA and other members of the executive and also met the traders concerned this morning and I understand that we should all come to the site and physically look at what happened here and take a decision based on this, ”said the Director General of WADA.
Dr Joseph Obeng, President of GUTA, reminded Association members of the collaborative relationship that had existed between WADA and the Association since 1991 and expressed the need for traders to trust them for a lasting solution to dead end.
