No school will be left behind in the distribution of PPE – GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) calls on principals and parents to exercise restraint, as it ensures that every school in the country receives its share of personal protective equipment (PPE).

According to the GES, the distribution of individual protection kits is still ongoing and each school will be covered in the exercise.

This follows concerns raised by some education sector stakeholders that some schools did not receive PPE within days of reopening despite the government’s commitment to do so as a form of support to schools for that they comply with COVID-18 prevention protocols.

GES Public Relations Officer Cassandra Twum Ampofo Citi News the interview said his team is relentlessly trying to provide PPE to all schools across the country.

“The distribution of PPE is ongoing and at the moment some schools have not had it, but I urge them to calm down. No school will be left behind. Once we start distribution and they are aware that public schools receive PPE, they will receive theirs as well. They should wait patiently while the birth is over, ”she said.

An educator, Ekow Djan had previously criticized the government for the delay in distribution to some educational institutions.

Mr Djan said schools remain high risk areas for the spread of COVID-19 and therefore the government must urgently attach to the distribution exercise.

“The government must be operational. We are obviously not in normal times, as such we should not maintain the normal methods of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to manage the affairs in our schools, this that is to say not to pay critical attention to situations like this, the Association of Parents and Teachers not showing up to help the government at times like this, ”he said in a statement.

He added: “Our students and teachers are currently at high risk of contracting the coronavirus. Let’s do everything humanly possible to make sure our schools are safe for teaching and learning. If we cannot guarantee a safe environment, I recommend closing the schools, going back, getting ready and coming back later ”.
