The Ghana Energy Awards are organizing the media launch of the third edition of the Awards on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Challenge House, Abelemkpe, Accra, to unveil the theme of this year's awards and to nominate candidates for the various categories.
Scheduled for the last Friday in November, the awards program, which aims to recognize the efforts and hard work of individuals and organizations in the country's energy sector, has been approved by the Ministry of Energy. Energy and the World Energy Council, in Ghana, and has for its source Mazars Ghana. validators.
Henry Teinor and Nicholas Frimpong-Manso, organizers of the awards, note that the third edition of the awards will be exciting as key industry players will participate in the overall award process.
"I can badure the public that the winners will deserve because we have expanded the spectrum of judgments. We decided to involve most industry players in the process, "said Teinor.
He added that the organizing committee had decided to launch the launch three months before the event, so that potential candidates have ample time to gather their documents and evidence to support their applications.
"We monitor projects, new agreements and strategic achievements of companies in the sector. We are also looking for organizations that ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
"To this end, we consult the regulators of the industry, namely the Ministry of Energy, the Petroleum Commission, the Energy Commission and the NPA, as well as badociations of the Industry such as the House of Bulk Oil Distributors and the Association of Petroleum Marketing Companies act in the right way, so that the regulators prove to us that they have performed well. Those who are on the right track and do not deceive the public to make gains are the candidates we consider, "he added.
This, he said, indicates the proof of the thoroughness of the award process, to the extent that such a judgment is sound. As part of the activities for the 2019 event, visits will be made to the project sites designated by the candidates for evaluation by the Selection Board, in particular for the CSR category.
Some categories of awards are the Apex Awards – Energy Personality of the Year – Men's and Women's categories. Ms. Kate Papafio, Executive Director of the Reroy Group, and Dr. Alfred Ofosu Ahenkorah, Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, won the two categories awards respectively at the first edition in 2017, while Mr. Antwi -Darkwa, general manager of the Volta River Authority and Mrs. Abigail Ansolange Harlley, general manager of the AI group, also received the apex trophy at the second event.
Other important categories include the rising star award, the Energy Reporter, the Energy Institution, the energy-efficient organization of the year, among others. There are also non-competitive rewards. Attorney General Gloria Akufo and Chief Justice Justice Sophia Akufo were jointly recognized for their efforts to implement the ITLOS decision for Ghana. At the 2018 protest, lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata and Dr. Wereko-Brobbey also received the award for their respective roles in the upstream and electrical sectors of the country when they served the country.
Kwame Ampofo, chairman of the jury, said the prizes should, in principle, pay tribute to hard-working energy players, promote competition and provide quality services.
According to the plan, it is expected that each year the rewards program be better organized in terms of quality of delivery, attendance, evaluation of nominees, which is totally transparent and reflects the events of the year. industry.
The 2018 event was far more important, he said, in terms of participation, publicity and the entire organization. However, this year, "we are waiting and we are working to improve the event in all respects," he added.
According to the jury chairman, energy prices in Ghana are seen by industry players and regulators as the real reward for the country's energy sector. Innovative rewards, such as the special non-competitive category, awarded to the previous two editions by noble personalities, make the rewards program unique and stand out from all others.
"This year, we will be presenting a special set of rewards, similar to non-competitive awards, for top artists in the country whose patriotism and efforts have advanced the country and, in this case, the industry. l & # 39; energy. This set of awards is apolitical, but for politicians who have worked hard to move the country forward. These are personalities that the whole country will attest to that they deserve these awards, "said Dr. Ampofo.
Dr. Ampofo hopes that they will continue their efforts and ensure fierce competition between them. It also expects more companies to participate in this year's awards by demonstrating a competitive attitude due to their business, safety, local content and production of their operations.
