Norwich star named player of the season

Norwich striker Teemu Pukki was named player of the Sky Bet Championship season at the EFL Awards on Sunday night.

The Finnish international, who joined the Canaries in free transfer last summer, is leading the scorers table with 26 goals this season.

Two of them played QPR's 4-0 win on Saturday, allowing Daniel Farke's well-placed team to leave seven points clear of the lead and on the right track for the Premier League. .

Pukki was also named in the season's championship team, alongside teammates Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons, as well as the two players also selected for the league's player of the year award – Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp and Birmingham striker Che Adams.

Defender Aarons, 19, was named the young player of the season.

The teenager said, "I'm delighted, I could not ask for more. Our eyes are on promotion, but it's great to get that distinction.

"Thanks to all the staff and players of the club, I could not have won this without them, we believe in the team and we are ready for the end of the season."

Luton striker James Collins beat John Marquis and Aiden McGeady to be named Ligue 1 player, while Tranmere striker James Norwood won the League Two trophy.

Like Pukki, both players are at the top of the hierarchy. Collins has hit 22 times this season and Norwood 27.

Chris Wilder, whose Sheffield United team is second in the championship, has been named EFL Director of the season.

Ruben Neves, currently playing in the Premier League with the Wolves, won the title of the year for his superb long-range volley against Derby last April.
