The ruling party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially written to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to invite them to dialogue on the dissolution of self-defense groups badociated with both, according to the instructions of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

It was after the end of the violence in a by-election in Ayawaso West Wuogon, injuring more than a dozen members of the NDC.

After the president's statement, the NDC wrote him a letter asking him to include the Peace Council and others in the discussions.

Akufo-Addo responded by expressing dismay at the NDC's stance.

"I am dismayed, and I believe that the Ghanaian people share my dismay, that the two parties that have dominated and continue to dominate the politics of the Fourth Republic, which have garnered at least 95 percent of the votes in each party. In response to the second letter, the President directed the Attorney General to begin drafting a bill to address the problem of vigilance. According to government spokespersons, the drafting of the law will go hand in hand with the dialogue between the two main parties.

In all these areas, the NPP had not yet formally written to the NDC to invite it, as ordered by the president.

On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National President of the NDC, wrote an invitation letter.

The letter signed by NPP Secretary General John Boadu expressed his joy "To officially invite you (the NDC) to a meeting to discuss the threat of political vigilance, which has gained notoriety in the country, and to explore ways to permanently dissolve the various self-defense groups badociated with both." main political parties of Ghana ".

In its letter, the NPP is ready to meet the NDC wherever it is convenient and to ask it to communicate the location.

"The NPP is proposing that this crucial meeting take place during this week in a venue that suits you and we urge you to contact the party as soon as possible when you find the venue that suits you for this meeting" the declaration added.
