New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign manager Peter Mac Manu has revealed that he will soon be called before the party’s review committee to answer questions about the party’s performance in the polls that have just ended.
Mr Mac Manu, speaking to Kwesi Parker-Wilson of JoyNews, noted that following the unexpected turnout of the results, especially in the parliamentary elections, the review board must assess the circumstances leading up to the results.
According to the campaign manager, although he does not know when he will be asked to appear before the committee, he is sure he will be invited soon.
“We have a review board in place, headed by Nana Osafo Maafo with veteran politicians like Paapa Owusu Ankomah, Fred Oware, Elizabeth Ohene, among others on board.
“They called my assistant so they’ll call me eventually. I don’t know when but I know they will call me eventually, ”he said.
It comes after at least 33 incumbent NPP MPs lost their seats in the election that just ended. About 21 of them are either ministers of state or deputy ministers.
Aside from the 33 MPs who lost their seats, a total of 41 incumbents who lost the NPP primaries earlier this year and therefore did not contest in Monday’s polls.
Meanwhile, four NPP MPs are retiring.
In total, the ruling party will lose at least 78 lawmakers out of its 169 in the next legislature. This means that about 50% of all deputies from nuclear power plants do not return.
But reacting to this information, Mac Manu attributed the parliamentary losses suffered by the NPP in the polls which have just ended to the change in behavior of some MPs after winning the seat in 2016.
According to him, some lawmakers after winning the parliamentary elections lost contact with voters, therefore, his attire cannot be fully blamed for the appalling performance of the party if the deputies who are representatives of the people fail to establish good relations with their constituents. .
“A lot of things go into parliamentary elections. In our case, parliamentary candidates failed to convince voters enough to win their votes. Campaigning is your ability to give and send messages directly to the voter who should touch their heart to vote for you.
“So you can’t blame the campaign manager just for an MP’s failure not to keep his seat. This is because the way you behave in your community, among others, can cause your people to say ‘they don’t like you’ because of the changes in behavior that you show after winning the election, ”he said. -he explains.
