The New Patriotic Party (NPP) claims to have assembled a team of lawyers to challenge the results of seven parliamentary constituencies in the 2020 general election which has just ended.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra at the party’s campaign office on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, party campaign manager Peter Mac Manu said that although the party was unhappy with the parliamentary results of the named constituencies, he had not asked his supporters to take to the streets in protest, as supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did.
He said the NPP as a law-abiding political party would use legitimate means such as the courts to challenge the results the party was not happy with.
Mr Mac Manu, who presented evidence to support the party’s claim that he won the disputed Parliament seat in Techiman South, said that because the NDC lost the seat, he resorted to lies, deception and propaganda just to dust the eyes of the people.
According to him, the reason the NDC decided not to challenge Techiman South’s results in court was because the party did not want to be subjected to a rigorous judicial review as they had no evidence to prove. court.
The defeat of NDC
He said the NDC, including its flag bearer John Dramani Mahama; Secretary General, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia; The leader of the minority in Parliament, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, and the parliamentary candidate for the constituency of Techiman South, Mr. Christopher Baasongti Beyere, had all given different figures on the legislative elections of Techiman South.
“They cannot tell consistent lies,” MacManu noted, pointing out that since Techiman Sud’s parliamentary results had been collated and declared, the only option for the NDC to overrule the results, if it had a legitimate claim, was to go to court. .
He said the NPP was always ready to meet the NDC in court, adding that the party (NPP) was not afraid of the justice system and that the party in 2012 used the justice system to challenge even the presidential results.
He said NPP parliamentary candidate for Techiman South Martin Adjei Korsah won the seat with 49,682 votes against 49,205 votes for NDC Beyere.

Mr. Mac Manu was of the opinion that the NDC and its supporters had resorted to street protests because the party had always felt defeat even before the elections and therefore wanted to engage in illegal behavior, praising the security agencies for the professional way they had handled the NDC street protests.
For him, the election was conducted in a free and fair manner and numerous observation missions, including the European Union and the Coalition of National Election Observers (CODEO), all reported on it.
He therefore called on the NDC flag bearer to call to order party supporters for engaging in violent and illegal street protests after the elections.
