The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not participate in the biased selection of candidates in parliamentary elections before the parliamentary primaries in September.
According to the deputy secretary general of the party, Nana Obiri Boahen.
He explained that the process will not be fraught with pitfalls like the NDC in Asawase, where supporters of Mubarick Masawudu, one of the prime mover candidates, staged a protest at the NDC regional office in Kumasi last week.
In an interview with Citi News on the opening of the nomination process for parliamentary candidates, Nana Obiri Boahen warned party leaders against any obstruction of the electoral process.
"I make them understand that the process is focused on the election and not on selection. Therefore, do not give the impression that they are firmly behind a candidate. "
"When I hear about what is happening in Asawase and Kumasi, it clearly indicates that we will not go at all to that extent. This is a clear manifestation of the selection and not of the election. I made it clear to them that the New Patriotic Party should not in any way demonstrate the kind of behavior presented by the NDC to Asawase and Asunafo South. "
The NPP decided on 28 September to choose or elect candidates for the 2020 legislative elections in constituencies where the party does not have a sitting MP.
However, the constituency primaries where the party has incumbent MPs have been postponed to a later date.
These decisions were made by the National Executive Committee of the party, in accordance with Article 12 of the NPP Constitution, at a meeting held on Monday.
The National Council, which also met after the NEC conference, decided to hold the presidential primaries early next year, in accordance with Article 13 of the party constitution.
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, National President of the NPP, Freddie Blay, as well as members of CEN and National Council.
The members instructed the National Steering Committee to develop guidelines and modalities for the conduct of the parliamentary and presidential primaries for the 2020 general elections.
