Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, NDC flag bearer
Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, presidential candidate in the upcoming presidential elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), described the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a party that endorses corruption, theft, embezzlement and greed.
He said the party's nuclear power plant had led many young people to yield to the pressure to make money in the fastest and most unacceptable way.
Today's youth, he said, sees no problem with corruption as the NPP has institutionalized it and has failed to provide a form of responsible leadership.
Spio-Garbrah, who was speaking on Frontline at Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, said that the NDC was not a party that endorsed corruption because it was based on values and principles based on probity and responsibility.
The NDC, he noted, must return to its roots, respect these principles and refrain from copying the corrupt nature of the NPP.
Respect for these principles will make the holiday the best alternative, attractive and reliable, he added.
He instructed the party to return to the grbadroots and imbibe the youth the need to avoid social and financial pressures so as not to engage in corrupt practices.
He said wealth creation was not a problem but that creating wealth by stealing or using corruption was an evil and an affront to responsible governance.
He said corruption had increased because greedy political leaders were unable to distinguish between their personal interests and national interests.
He also spoke out against nepotism, the style of governance of family and friends and added that it engendered corruption.
