The National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) has become more relevant over the past two years.
The quiz competition has become the most watched on the Ghanaian screens and it can only improve.
The involvement of the sponsors and the keen interest shown by the alumni of the participating schools were decisive.

This year, St. Augustine's College emerged victorious after defeating St. Peter's SHS and the Boys' Presbyterian High School in the final.
But all the buzz surrounding the NSMQ will buy President Akufo-Addo and his free high school policy.
The Free SHS program was rolled out in September 2017, allowing students to enroll in public high schools without paying fees.
Although the lack of funds has made the program a little fragile, there is no doubt that it has helped to increase the number of registrations.
This means that more JHS graduates now have a better chance of going to high school, regardless of the financial history of their parents or guardians.
The concept of the NSMQ is to give all high schools the opportunity to become known nationally.
That's why a school like Tepa SHS could come out of nowhere and qualify for the final, even finishing in front of the most prestigious Wesley Girls' SHS.

This idea is perfectly related to the goal of Free SHS policy: to provide equal opportunities to all students in the country in education.
It is therefore fair to say that the NSMQ advocates for Akufo-Addo's Free SHS policy and that brighter students will continue to be recruited as long as the program is maintained.
