The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) paved the way for the construction of the Volta regional headquarters in the regional capital of Ho.
The £ 1.06million facility, when completed, would turn off the party’s long-desired goal of having enough workspace to function.
The building would contain approximately 6 offices, an executive office, a control room, a conference room with a capacity of approximately 100 people and other ancillary facilities.
Completion of the building would end more than 30 years of the party’s operation in a rented apartment.
Building the regional headquarters project was a major promise for Makafui Woanyah when he aspired to lead the elephant family in the Volta region as president.
As a result, he thus fulfilled such a promise.
Addressing party-goers at the groundbreaking ceremony, Woanyah said the project was necessitated by the need for additional office space to improve the administrative work of the nuclear power plant.
This, he said, would result in the growth of the elephant fraternity in the stronghold of the opposition National Democratic Congress since the establishment of the 4th Republic.
He stressed the need for party loyalists to continue investing in the provision of infrastructure and other relevant logistics needed to improve the operations of the nuclear power plant; on his shoulders they rode to success and wealth.
“We cannot continue to build and align mansions as beneficiaries of the ELEPHANT legacy and yet deny the elephant a decent and suitable home. The oarty deserves better than we’ve given it so far across the board and we’re determined to change the narrative.
“The concept and design of the project is aimed at providing enough office and room space for our offices, an executive boardroom, recreation and enough space for vehicles to maneuver,” he said. .
He explained that they had eliminated the elements of the opposition in collaboration with internal factors, with the aim of destroying the plans of the project and starting the construction works.
Mr Woanyah said the building will be completed by the end of 2021 and fully operational.
“And God willing, a second project, which is the construction of an ultra-modern auditorium, will begin,” he announced.
He appreciated the support of the national hierarchy of nuclear power plants for the project.
NPP National President Freddie Blay hailed the initiative to erect a seat, describing it as “an important base to strengthen the party’s organizing efforts in the regions”.
He further stated that “every seat we build must reflect and reflect modern technology and the needs of our party as we move into the future. Therefore, I am particularly excited by the ability of the architect to integrate important concepts in his file to animate the project.
“I am convinced that over time, this building will constitute a good architectural statement and a true testament to the party’s commitment to our members in the region,” he added.
He reminded the patriots to remain committed to the core values of the NPP.
“Let us remember that without a true commitment to our values, nothing we build today will stand the test of time. The core value of the New Patriotic Party is commitment and dedication to public service.
“We must never forget that what defines who we are are the democratic ideals to serve in the interest of the people to build a better Ghana,” he said.
Mr Blay also pleaded with politicians “to stop identifying politics as a means of enriching themselves and focusing on service for the benefit of citizens when appointed to public office rather than seeking means of amassing personal wealth.
“We must always remember that even though we have our political differences, we must cooperate with our political colleagues from other parties to work to improve and enrich Ghana. “
“In our diversity of political approaches and ideologies, the NPP and our colleagues in the NDC and all other political parties must be united in the desire to make our country a better place now and for generations to come,” he stressed.
NPP youth organizer Henry Nana Boakye highly appreciated the leadership of the party in the Volta region.
