A senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) said the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) would lose the elections massively if they were held today.
Dr Amakye Boateng, speaking on Akoma FMnews and political broadcast of GhanAkoma, based his prediction on what he describes as failure to implement policies and excessive taxation without a corresponding pay rise.
He also referred to the rise in insecurity and unemployment.
Although he did not base his claims on empirical facts, research or evidence, he explained that “the NPP will lose the election if it is held today because the government is gradually becoming unpopular due to certain rash decisions and policies which have aroused negative reactions from the masses, so naturally such decisions weigh on the government in opposition ”.
The political scientist further indicated that “although the odds are against the ruling party, the NDC is gradually gaining the goodwill of the public, so that the pendulum turns in its favor as it stands.”
Dr Amakye Boateng warned the government to reverse certain attitudes that could create bad impressions in the minds of voters and restore the fading goodwill towards them ahead of the 2012, 2016 and 2020 elections.
Meanwhile, refuting the political scientist’s claims, Ashanti’s regional communications director for the nuclear power plant, Kwasi Kyei, explained that “first of all, I would like to state that the nuclear power plant has not lost the good one. will of the Ghanaians and we are always the best option when it comes to the management of public money ”.
“Further, Dr. Amakye’s statements are mere opinions to which he is of course entitled, but they do not represent reality.”
He urged Ghanaians to keep good faith in the nuclear power plant as they always have, as the best of the nuclear power plant has yet to come out, even amid the global pandemic.
