Turkey’s coronavirus infections fell for a third consecutive day to 14,205 in the past 24 hours, according to data from the Health Ministry released on Sunday.
The total number of cases has reached 2.15 million with the latest additions.
The death toll from the virus increased by 254, bringing the total death toll to 19,878, while 21,196 people have recovered since Saturday, bringing the total to 2 million.
Some 172,113 COVID-19 tests were carried out across the country in the past day, bringing the total to more than 23.77 million.
The number of critically ill patients stands at 4,309, according to the data.
“Our number of cases and patients continues to decline. The number of contacts and the demand for tests are also decreasing. We hope to see soon the impact of the measures and restrictions on our losses. Continuity of the fight will make success permanent.” . Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter.
Ankara has imposed full lockdowns on weekends and curfews on weekdays to fight infections. Turks will also be stranded from 9 p.m. on December 31 to 5 a.m. on January 4 under the measures.
The novel coronavirus pandemic has killed more than 1.74 million people in 191 countries and regions since last December.
More than 79.48 million cases have been reported worldwide, with more than 44.82 million recoveries, according to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University in the United States.
The United States, India and Brazil remain the most affected countries in terms of the number of cases.
As new restrictions are imposed ahead of the holiday season, especially across Europe, countries are approving and purchasing vaccines to pave the way for the pandemic to end.
