The Centers for Disease Control yesterday confirmed three new measles cases badociated with a group in a hospital in central Taiwan, bringing the total to eight.
The three new cases were all nurses in their twenties who were working in the hospital and had direct contact with another nurse in her forties who was working at the hospital. the hospital, said the centers.
The nurse in her 40s was diagnosed with measles on March 28, according to the statement.
Although the three nurses were vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella on March 30 or last Monday, they began to show symptoms Friday and Saturday last week and developed rashes from Saturday to Monday, announced the centers.
The tests showed that the strain with which they were infected corresponded to the virus from a group of cases in the hospital, the centers said.
Of the eight people affected so far, five are nurses, the newspaper added, adding that emergency measures, including the temporary suspension of patient registration and management of fever in the emergency department of the hospital, had been set up.
All hospital workers, with the exception of those for whom it is not recommended to be vaccinated, received vaccines on Monday, adding that 424 people who had direct contact with people whose illness had been confirmed would be monitored until April 30th.
In total, 55 cases of measles were confirmed this year in the country: 29 domestic infections – of which 18 infected by close contact with an infected person – and 26 infected abroad, including 22 Taiwanese, announced the centers. .
People should avoid unnecessary visits to health facilities and maintain good respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, the centers said.
