Nyaho Medical Center would transfer all non-COVID patients from the facility to other hospitals to create more space for the admission of those infected with the virus.
The move is part of some key decisions made by the hospital to address the challenges associated with congestion at its facilities, due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 infections in Ghana.
“All non-COVID patients will be referred to other hospitals from today [January 19, 2021] given that all other hospitals have the capacity to take non-COVID patients, ”the Center said in an internal memo seen by citinewsroom.com.
He said the hospital’s consulting rooms will also be used as “overflow rooms only when there are no COVID beds available.”
“However, if used, it will have the basic configuration of a hospital room with a hospital bed, monitor, drip racks, etc.,” he added.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 22nd update on government response measures against coronavirus to nation highlighted the seriousness of the COVID-19 situation in Ghana.
He said all treatment centers were operating at full capacity, resulting in a shortage of beds in treatment centers in Accra.
The Center believes that these decisions will help tackle the problem of congestion, especially at its facilities.

Wing B that was originally used for non-Covid patients will be designated as a COVID-19 room to move patients from overflow areas to designated beds.
All non-essential clinics will be redirected to Octagon and the following clinics will be canceled at the airport site: ENT, endoscopy, psychiatry, ophthalmology, urology and physiotherapy. This will ensure that there is sufficient capacity to treat COVID-19 patients.
