Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, responded to former President Olusegun Obasanjo's accusation that President Muhammadu Buhari was preparing to rig the elections, like the former head of state, Sani Abacha.
Denouncing Obasanjo's complaint, ACF said most Nigerians did not know because Abacha had never held an election.
The group challenged Obasanjo to behave as a statesman and refrain from denigrating democratic institutions.
In a statement, ACF National Secretary Anthony Sani said Obasanjo should encourage democratic institutions to improve their performance.
According to Sani, "Abacha has never organized an election.
"If that's what he said Obasanjo, I would say that most Nigerians were not aware, because Abacha never organized elections before his death .
"And given the fact that we do not know the so-called plans of the current regime to rig elections, it would be wrong for one group to be worried.
"This is because all that is worrying would amount to a vote of no confidence on our democratic institutions such as the INEC, which badured the nation of the commission's will to hold free and fair elections by improving the recorded performances. in previous elections in 2015.
"Even if the former president is fully partisan and can do everything possible to denigrate the ruling party and the democratic institutions under his watch, it would be worthy of him to note that he can not give up his expected statehood status will help build and strengthen our democratic institutions for performance, and not deteriorate them without suggestions as to the best way to improve them.
