Odion Ighalo garners Shanghai Shenhua defeat against Shenzhen

The Nigerian international scored its seventh goal in eight games, but that was not enough to help the Shanghai Flower avoid defeat

Odion Ighalo was on Shanghai Shenhua's 2-1 defeat against Shenzhen in a Chinese Super League match at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center on Sunday.

The Nigerian striker scored for his team from the penalty spot in the 76th minute, after Li Yuanyi gave the advantage to Juan Ramon Lopez Caro's men.

Harold Preciado scored a few moments before the end of the match to deprive the Shanghai Flower of some of the points.

Ighalo played for the duration of the match while Senegalese international Sheikh M & Bengue, who won, was replaced in the 28th minute by Qiao Wei.

With this defeat, Shanghai Shenhua dropped to eleventh place with seven points in eight games.

On the international scene, the 29-year-old should play an important role for the Super Eagles at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, scheduled for June and July.

Nigeria is part of Group B with Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar.
