The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Branch in Tarkwa-Nsuaem of the Western Region has debunked a news publication from citinewsroom.com according to which the MP for the region, the Hon . George Mireku Duker was arrested by police in Ghana for breaking the highway code.

Citi TV has launched a campaign against indiscipline on our roads, especially in Accra, the capital of the country, nicknamed "the war against indiscipline".

On Monday, July 8, 2019, Citi News reported that the MP for Tarkwa-Nsuaem had been strongly sued by the police and arrested for violating the Highway Code.

"The MP, who holds an MSc in oil and gas management from the University of Plymouth in the UK, did not stop arresting when the police surprised him. scoffing at the Spintex road on Monday morning, "Cale News's Caleb Kudah reported.

"Caleb Kudah, of Citi News, reported that the MP was hot-tempered, after which he was arrested and finally brought to justice," the channel added.

This publication subtitles "A Tarkwa-Nsuaem deputy hunted hot, wanted for breach of the Highway Code".

But in a statement issued and signed by the party's deputy communications director, Ing. Gomashie Edem, in a copy for the media, said that "the management refutes Citinews' exaggerated claims that the MP is being prosecuted and brought to justice."

He added that "the MP has had a diplomatic interaction with the police".

He explained that "… After these activities, the deputy responsible for representing the political party of the new patriotic party (NPP) and the government during the political broadcast of the morning of Adom TV had to meet deadlines in the interest of the people he represents ".

"There were strict vehicle movements on Spintex Road this morning due to the presence of the police, it was difficult to cross and had no choice but to cross the middle of the road just to tell the police to give him access because he was late to represent his party on television, "he added.

He concluded that "as a hard-working member of the first term, we call on the general public to continue its efforts to develop our country."

NPP press release verification Tarkwa-Nsuaem Communications Branch, MP, Hon. Mireku Duker confirmed to this reporter that the party's press release is authentic.

He also confirmed that he was not arrested, as reported by Citi TV: "I was not arrested and I was not returned to court, I had diplomatic talks with the police and this Monday morning, I represented my government and my party on TV and I will continue to work hard for my party and the government led by Akufo-Addo, so I am focused, I have no problem with the media, but always report the truth.

To the general public

The Communications Branch of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Nuclear Power Plant intercepted a Citinews publication under the headline "A Tarkwa-Nsuaem MP Hot Shot, Charged with a Road Offense".

The Communications Branch has this to say;

1. The MP had this morning a long talk with a radio station based in Tarkwa, Adwinpa FM, on the progress of work on the bad nature of the roads of Tarkwa, which drew the country's attention since a while.

2. Immediately after the interview, the MP met with stakeholders about discussions with a view to speeding up work on the Ahwetieso road, which had even been indicated during the interview.

3. After these activities, the deputy supposed to represent the new patriotic party (NPP) and the government during the morning political broadcast of Adom TV had to match the time in the interest of the people what he represents.

Due to the presence of the police, vehicles on the Spintex road were strict. It was difficult to cross the road and had no choice but to cross the middle of the road, just to tell the police to give him access, because he was late to represent his party at television.

The MP had diplomatic interaction with the police.

The management refutes Citinews' exaggerated claims that the MP was prosecuted and tried in court.

All those who have felt the nature of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem roads will deeply understand the desperation of their legislator to make an extra effort to satisfy them.

The MP has held several public positions in the past and has never been involved in any form of non-compliance with our laws.

As a dedicated member of the first term, we call on the general public to continue their efforts to develop our country.

Thank you.
