The Limited Architect and Engineering Services (AESL) indicated that they were awaiting instructions from the government for the completion of the Vice President's official residence.
Land Surveyor Robert Abugre, Acting Director General of AESL, informed him during his appearance before the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday.
"The contractor owed money and questions were raised about the project, which resulted in the suspension of the work. For now, it is still suspended and no work is in progress. We are waiting for the government to make a decision on the end use of the project and any other directive, "he said.
But the chairman of the public accounts committee, James Avedzi Klutse, has urged the Akufo-Addo government to release funds for the completion of Mr. Bawumia's official residence.
Klutse said PAC will make a recommendation to Parliament on the need to complete the project.
The government spends taxpayers' money on this project. We will make a recommendation that will be sent home. We will recommend that the government make a decision on the project to find the way forward. The government should complete the project so that it can be used wisely. Whether it is to be housed by the president or used for any other purpose, we will know that the people of Ghana benefit from it, "he added.
The construction of the building sparked controversy when Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia revealed that the project had cost the state $ 13.9 million during the previous administration. The project was then suspended to allow the revision of the contract.
