Official: Wigan signs a young man from Everton

Everton have confirmed the departure of Joe Williams to Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed rate. The 22-year-old failed to make his first appearance before leaving and did more than the team on six occasions. According to Transfermarkt, Williams has accumulated 62 appearances at the Under-23 level, scoring and creating eight goals.

The lack of playing time from the midfielder at Goodison Park led to a withdrawal of the loan to Barnsley (July 20, 2017 – May 31, 2018) and Bolton Wanderers (August 23, 2018 – May 31, 2019), and now he has sealed a permanent move to the championship. His departure is not surprising, since he was at the bottom of the hierarchy under Marco Silva.

Everton's manager was Fabian Delph, André Gomes, Morgan Schneiderlin, Tom Davies, Beni Baningime, James McCarthy and Muhamed Besic at his disposal, so there was no room for Williams. The former England international U-20 has quickly established himself as the first team in Wigan after playing 64 league games in the past two seasons.

He can play a defensive or offensive role in midfield, and on the flanks, so he will bring versatility to the DW stadium in 2019/20. Everton will not cry much about his departure, but Wigan is certainly excited about their new acquisition.
