Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, president of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who is appearing in court, is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to answer charges of conspiracy to harm and badault a public official.

To appear alongside Ofosu Ampofo, Kwaku Boahen, the NDC's Deputy National Communications Officer, faces similar charges.

The two major groups of NDC must appear before the High Court of Accra.

They both denied the charges against them.

The charges were laid against the two people after being reported in March 2019 to answer questions about a recorded tape in which they allegedly made certain statements inciting violence.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo refused to comment publicly on the audio that would have been tampered with.

When he went to CID headquarters on Monday, March 4, 2019, he listened to about 30 minutes of audio, after which he was asked if this was his voice, but he refused to comment on the audio.

He was formally arrested and charged with the threat of harm and conspiracy to harm a public official. He then proceeded to write his statement.

After that, he was released on bail of an amount of 400,000 Gh ¢ with two sureties.

Since then, he has been coming to the CID intermittently.

In addition, the NDC, through its director of communications, Kakra Essamuah, issued a press release dated April 15, 2019 in which it was announced "for the information of the general public" that Mr. Ofosu Ampofo and Kwaku Boahen would be brought to court on Tuesday at 8 am answer "the charges arising from the content of the leaked tape."
