COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio and Hungary have entered into a partnership to strengthen economic, technological and commercial cooperation.

Lydia Mihalik (mih-HAY'-lihk), Director of Development Services, Ohio, and HE Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary (zy-JAR'-doh) recently signed a memorandum of 'agreement. The document promises broader economic cooperation between the parties.

Mihalik said the partnership went beyond trade, which totaled $ 186 million last year, to share ideas. Szijjarto said that US investors are becoming increasingly important in Hungary's "very open" small Hungarian economy.

The leaders said that 25 years of cooperation between the National Guard of Ohio and the Hungarian Defense Forces had laid the groundwork for this agreement.

Cleveland is home to one of the largest Hungarian populations in the United States.

The Hungarian district of Toledo is home to the famous Tony Packo café.
