Okudzeto Ablakwa earned my respect with his resignation – Prof. Gyampo

Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo congratulated North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on his resignation from the parliamentary appointments committee.

According to the professor, the decision of the deputy is a clear demonstration of a person of principle.

“I have a lot of respect for Okudzeto for the decisions he made.

“I have always maintained that it seems our politicians have no principles and they have no conviction and therefore they do whatever they want. But what Okudzeto Ablakwa has done in my opinion is a demonstration of someone who believes in principles, ”he said on Saturday. Newsfile from JoyNews.

It comes after the MP from Tongu North submitted his resignation to the Speaker of Parliament, resigning from his post as a member of the Nominating Committee.

It is not known why Mr. Ablakwa resigned, however, he stated in his resignation letter that “the reasons for this difficult decision are both personal and principled”.

Despite this, there is public speculation that his decision is linked to outstanding issues within the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Professor Gyampo suspects the same.

In his view, the current situation of the suspended parliament in Ghana has given hope to the public that there would be more minority control over the government, however, recent events suggest otherwise.

During Newsfile on Saturday, he revealed that prior to the approval of ministerial nominees, conservations with Mr Ablakwa indicated that the minority in Parliament was not going to see the approval of some ministers, especially those who did not respect. not the standard when checking. .

But in the end, things did not end as the minority had discussed and no substantive explanation was given by its leaders.

This, he says, raises many questions about minority leadership in the House.

“There were some of the things he [Okudzeto] said the minority wouldn’t do and then they turned out to go and do the very things they said they weren’t going to do without any explanation.

“It gives the impression that they are involved in some kind of appeasement policy,” he said.

“For me, I think Mr. Ablakwa acted on the basis of principle and belief, and he acted on the basis of the fact that he believes in principle and we have to commend him for that because not all politicians who will, ”he added.
