The Ken and Angela Foundation, under the auspices of Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, handed over a two-story doctors’ apartment to the Kyebi government hospital.

The apartment, made up of three independent two-bedroom and three single-bedroom units, is intended to curb the housing challenge that keeps many newly assigned doctors away from the facility.

Speaking at the commissioning and handing over ceremony of the Osagyefo Amoatia Doctors Flat, Ahene Nanahene Barimah Kwaku noted that quality health care is a fundamental requirement of any civilized society.

However, he added, the quality of healthcare depends on the kind of dignity and respect that society gives to healthcare workers, as well as the availability of medical equipment.

It is therefore stated that the lack of housing has been an obstacle to quality health care in the capital Akyem Abuakwa.

Barima Kwaku Dua believes that the arrangements of the doctors’ apartment will help reduce accommodation problems at Kyebi Public Hospital and ensure quality health care for the population.

On behalf of Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori-Panin, Akyem Ahweneasehene Barimah Gyasi Kodie said that Okyenhene has facilitated several development projects in Okyeman.

He agreed that handing over the doctors’ apartment would end the no-accommodation syndrome that frightens many doctors in the royal capital of Akyem Abuakwa.

Kyebi Government Hospital Medical Director Dr Nii Darko Duodu mentioned that two of the four doctors are being accommodated in temporary accommodation outside Kyebi while the dentist has not started work due to housing problems.

Dr Duodo added that other medical staff are still struggling to find accommodation, which makes their jobs very difficult.

He said, amid the frustration, the staff got down to work.

He therefore called on stakeholders to help them set up a staff village on 10 acres of land donated to the hospital by the Okyeman Council to provide a lasting solution to housing issues.
