Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that he would have to sell at least one central defender this summer when he signed the signing of the £ 80 million contract with Harry Maguire of Leicester City.
The 26-year-old has been badociated throughout the summer with a move to the Red Devils, with its neighborhood rivals, Manchester City also wishes to procure one of the central defenders of choice in England.
90min understands that Maguire's move to United will occur, although an imminent announcement is unlikely. When he joins the team, he will become the seventh senior central United defender.
Solskjaer already has Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Axel Tuanzebe at his disposal. He told reporters (via the Daily Mail) that seven options would simply be too many.
He said: "
"He really proved that he could play at this level and he came back strong and focused and he played well in the first game here. [against Perth Glory] and he is one of the exciting players that I am looking forward to seeing more. "
The manager has often preferred central defender Jones and Smalling last season, while Lindelof was also part of the group. It therefore seems unlikely that any of them will be sold this summer, despite the links with Barcelona for the latter.
He gave Bailly and Rojo opportunities towards the end of the campaign.
He was often ruled out of the World Cup games team at the end of the season and only started eight Premier League matches throughout the season. It seems completely out of order at Old Trafford and, on paper, seems most likely to be sold this summer.
