United has always maintained that a decision would be made before the end of the season, but an announcement could come sooner to end any speculation.

US midfielder Nemanja Matic echoed the sentiments of the players when he called for the nomination of Solskjaer and his No. 2 Mike Phelan, alongside badistant coaches Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna.

"I think it's an excellent manager," said Matic. "I'll be happy when he stays and I hope he'll do it.

"But you also have to say that with Mike, Michael and Kieran, they work very well together. It's not just Ole. '

Solskjaer spent time with his family in Norway during the international break. Phelan traveled to Australia as sports director of Central Coast Mariners.

"It's just a question of how things will evolve over the next few months," said Phelan.

"The season ends in Australia, so once decisions are made in England, I think we will resume these discussions with the Mariners."
