Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that Manchester United is about to sign a new contract with goalkeeper David De Gea.

The future of De Gea has been subject to uncertainty, with the Spanish having terminated his contract in one year and discussions between United and its representatives continuing for 18 months.

A breakthrough has been reached between the two sides, the boss of United, Solskjaer, suggesting an imminent announcement about the new extension of the contract of this 28-year-old man.

De Gea missed the opening match of United's pre-season against Perth Glory, in which the Solskja team triumphed 2-0, but will play a role in tomorrow's match against Leeds at Optus stage.

"He will play and I hope we can be in agreement [a new deal] with David, as I have said a few times, "said Solskjaer.

"It will be up to David to announce when this will happen, if and when."

Solskjaer admitted that there would be departures before the transfer deadline, while he continued to reshape his United team.

The boss of United, who brought six central defenders on tour and pursues Harry Maguire, admitted that he was going to have to reduce that number before the new season.

Solskjaer also admitted that there will be departures before the start of the new season

The future of Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku are also unclear, but Solskjaer said he was confident that he would have a strong and committed team of players when the transfer window closed on 8 August.

"Of course, there is a limit of players," said Solskjaer. "The one who plays will be part of the team and the one who does not have a fight has to fight to come back.

"The day we start the league, I'm sure everyone present will give absolutely everything to Manchester United. We want a strong team with players who give everything.

"There are still rumors of rumors about United's players, but when the league starts, we'll see things well and stay as a team."

Solskjaer also provided an update on the future of Axel Tuanzebe

Young defender Alex Tuanzebe, who returned to United after being loaned to Aston Villa last season and recently signed a new contract, Solskjaer said: "He has a good chance to stay here and play.

"He had a great season last year, but he proved he could play at that level and he came back strong and focused.

"He played well in the first game here and he's one of the exciting players I'm looking forward to seeing more."
