OLIVIER GIROUD hopes that Chelsea will trigger the extension of his one – year contract.
The French striker's contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season, but the club has an option for an extra season.
And Giroud, 32, will now wait before listening to lucrative pre-contractual offers to leave the club after 18 months.
The winner of the World Cup is free to talk to other clubs since January, but it is understood that his goal is to win another year in Chelsea.
He has scored six goals this season but was limited to six Premier League debuts. Gonzalo Higuain was selected by Maurizio Sarri in January to boost competition.
Most of Giroud's chances came in the Europa League and he scored in the 2-1 win against Malmo on Thursday.
But he should still attract offers if Chelsea decided to free the ex-star of Arsenal.
Clubs in China have expressed interest in taking him to the Far East for a big final mega-silver deal in his career.
He also refused to exclude the end of his career in France and his situation was followed by Lyon and Marseille.
Montpellier gave him his breakthrough nine years ago before being taken over by Arsène Wenger.
He learned his trade when he was young, in Grenoble and Tours, in the second rank of his country of origin.
