DSP Alexander Obeng, director of education, research and training at the Traffic and Transport Division (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, attributed the country's unique road network to a major cause of road accidents on our roads.

According to DSP Obeng, research has shown that most heartbreaking accidents occur on Trans-West's international roads (eg: roads that connect the country to neighboring countries), for example the Elubo -Yamoransa Highway – Aflao, Kwame Nkrumah Circle – Nkawkaw Road, Kumasi Road – Tamale.)

In an interview with Nkwa 88.1 FM, DSP Obeng revealed that a similar accident occurred in 2010, during which 65 people lost their lives.

The incident occurred in Kadia between Tamale and Bolga, 16 other people lost their lives in Kintampo in 2016 and 2019, 18 people also lost their lives in Bupala.

According to DSP Obeng, all these highways are isolated roads, so that a small error on the part of a driver or other mechanical fault can cause an accident.

He urged police colleagues on highways to be professional in not accepting bribes from failed drivers.
