There is no nationwide dumsor coming, state power transmitter Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) said.
In a statement, GRIDCo noted that its recent engagements with the media about ongoing projects in the electricity sector “appear to have heightened the perception of impending power cuts across the country.”
GRIDCo said it wished to assure the general public that it did not intend to embark on a nationwide load shedding program ”.
The transport company said it was currently carrying out “key projects to improve the reliability of the power supply in Greater Accra.”
These projects are:
• The Millennium Development Authority (MIDA) funded the Pokuase substation and the Kasoa Bulk Supply Point facilities.
• Project to strengthen the Tema – Accra transmission line financed by the French Development Agency (AFD).
The contractors of these projects, according to GRIDCo, “aim for full-scale completion between June and July of this year.”
“At some point in the process, entrepreneurs will have to interconnect with the current transportation network,” he noted.
“For this to happen, intermittent power outages will be needed at different times to safely connect the new facilities,” GRIDCo added.
Therefore, GRIDCo said that “these blackouts are not nationwide and will only affect parts of Accra and Winneba”.
GRIDCo said it was working with ECG, MiDA and other stakeholders “to ensure minimum impact on customers in affected areas”.
GRIDCo thus “assured all Ghanaians that there was a concerted effort by all stakeholders, led by the Ministry of Energy, to ensure a consistent, accessible and reliable power supply at all times”.
