The Ashanti regional branch of the Operation Vanguard Task Force Against Illegal Mining has sanctioned a series of operations aimed at suppressing the activities of illegal miners.
The miners arrested included those operating on the Oda and Offin rivers as well as in other areas within the communities.
The task force arrested five people, including four Chinese nationals whose names have been identified as; Li Xuh Jun, 51, Mo Chi Cai, 52, Wei Fun Ham, 45, and Wei Ziyun, 38.
Four other suspects who claim to be national security personnel who were encountered in one of the areas protecting the site saw their leader, Yusif Fuseini, also arrested and assisting the police in the investigation.
The task force destroyed thirty (30) platforms mounted with changfan machines.
He also seized an AK-47 assault rifle, a magazine filled with 13 live ammunition, three pump pistols with nine live cartridges.
Another pump pistol loaded with three rounds was also recovered from the suspects.

The activities of illegal miners, especially those engaged in alluvial mining, have been the source of pollution of the Oda and Offin rivers in the Ashanti region.
Their activities have not only polluted water bodies, increasing their turbidity and making it expensive to treat raw water for consumption, but have also affected aquatic life as dangerous chemicals are washed into the shores during water activities. alluvial extraction.
The Oda and Offin are the main sources of water for the communities in its watershed and people depend on it for agricultural and fishing activities and this livelihood source is threatened because the illegal activities of the Galamsey operators pose a serious danger for the ecosystem and human survival.
The suspects are currently on bail for police investigation and participating in investigations and will be charged and brought to justice.
