Soweto giants Orlando Pirates have tabled an R1.4-million transfer bid for 27-year-old Asante Kotoko striker Yacouba Songne in an attempt to bolster their attacking options.

The Sea Robbers have been brought to the country by the Ghanaian club but the Porcupine Warriors are reportedly open to a fair price.

Orlando Pirates have already been unveiled and they seem to be buccaneers are keen on their long wait for another league title in 2019/20.

Yacouba finished the 2018/19 season strongly scoring four goals in five appearances for Asante. Pirates may be an indication that they intend to accept a large bid for Zambian forward Justin Shonga. Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly have stepped up their interest in the Pirates forward who was in excellent form during last season's Caf Champions League.

The Ghana Premier League club is believed to be holding out for a figure somewhere in the region of R2-million.

Yacouba, who has been thrice-capped by Burkina Faso, joined Asante from Malian club Malian Stadium in January 2018 for a fee estimated to be around R1.1-million.

The striker, critically, has experience in the Caf Champions League and has played in three different African leagues.

As things stand the Buccaneers first-choice strike pairing would be Shonga and compatriot Augustine Mulenga. Should Shonga depart though, Pirates would be left a little thin on the ground up front.

Pirates have brought in Austin Muwowo but it remains to be seen if it will be deployed as a center-forward or out of favor. The Zambian is definitely going to be a goalkeeper for the past decade.

Yacouba tried to force a move away from Asante Kotoko in April. The Striker was, at the time, unhappy with the club's failure to pay him outstanding goals bonuses. The forward has also attracted interest from clubs in the French League.

Pirates have some competition for the Burkinabe's signature, with Zambian super-club ZESCO also in the hunt to sign the player, who is highly-rated by fans of Asante.

Asante Kotoko recently acquired the services of Ugandan forward George Abege. Abege has been registered for the Burkinabe race and it is presumed that it has been signed as a replacement for the wantaway.
