Ornella Muti is a star on screen and on stage since the 1970s
Italian actress Ornella Muti was informed that she could go to jail if she failed to pay damages and interest for the cancellation of the tour and attend a dinner with the Russian actor Vladimir Putin and the actor Kevin Costner.
Muti was scheduled to perform on stage in December 2010, but was ill for three nights and went to St. Petersburg to attend the charity gala.
The Italian court of appeal upheld his conviction for attempted fraud.
The actress said in the past that she was unable to pay the damage caused by the theater.
The Supreme Court of Cbadation confirmed Thursday its six-month suspended prison sentence, as well as a fine of € 500 (£ 445) and € 30,000 in compensation at the Verdi Theater in Pordenone, in the north -est from Italy.
Her conviction for attempted fraud stems from a note of illness that she delivered to the theater, claiming that she was suffering from acute inflammation of the trachea, accompanied by fever, coughing and from a hoarse voice.
The medical certificate recommended five days off and, according to some information, she would have gone to the Russian charity gala to which President Putin had already invited her.
When the pictures of the actress appearing at the same table as President Putin appeared, the theater moved to action.
The court warned that if Muti did not pay the compensation, she would go to jail.
Ornella Muti, 64, is known outside Italy for her films such as Flash Gordon and Oscar and continues to play on screen and on stage in Italy.
Italian media said it had 30 days to pay compensation before the court took further action.
At the initial trial in 2015, the actress said that she did not have the funds to pay.
Two years later, she and her family were evicted from her home in Rome with over € 80,000 in arrears to a real estate agency, Italian media reports.
Muti told the Russian press in the past that she had an apartment in Moscow and wanted to get Russian citizenship.
