Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, Kumawumanhene, Asantehene Representative Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, joined mourners on Tuesday to pay their final respects to the late ex-President Jerry John Rawlings at the Accra International Conference Center ( AICC).

The mortal remains of former President Rawlings are being prepared at the AICC Home for public consultation, as part of an elaborate four-day state funeral.

The late former president was married to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, a princess of the Asanteman royal family.

In keeping with Asanteman tradition, the delegation, on behalf of the Asantehene and Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, presented usual drinks and gifts and an amount of GH ¢ 5,000.00 as a funeral donation to the bereaved family.

Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, who spoke on behalf of Asantehene, said: “We are in Accra to mourn our friend and our brother-in-law.”

He recalled that Otumfuo, in 2010, had conferred on former President Rawlings a traditional title; “Agyewodin”, for the promotion of democracy in Ghana.

Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua said that whenever there was a major event at Manhyia Palace, the former president was present and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.

He prayed for national unity and peace, saying that was what the late former president stood for.

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the eldest of former President Rawlings and MP for Klottey Korle, expressed on behalf of the family his gratitude to Asantehene for this honor.
