Our ‘Do or die’ spirit made the Bagbin speaker – Suhuyini

Tamale North Constituency MP Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini said critics appeared to distort the “do or die” comments made by former President John Dramani Mahama.

He said the comments were a mere idiomatic expression that can only be interpreted in English and not by a Ghanaian.

Speaking on The key points to TV3/3FM On Saturday September 11, the Member of Parliament (MP) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said there had been cases in the 2020 elections where “Do or die” had yielded positive results for his party.

He cited how the persistence of the minority in electing a president for the eighth legislature led to the election of an NDC member, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, as president.

“Without this persistence that you saw on January 7, we would not have had a member of the Minority Party to be Speaker of Parliament.

“You have all seen what happened, the persistence of the minority that Ghana is celebrated today for having a member of the minority as Speaker of Parliament,” he quoted.

He also cited how the NDC won Savelugu’s legislative elections in 2020 due to the persistence of party polling officers as well as regional leaders.

He again cited how in Techiman South “even when people persisted they were shot and killed”.
