The vice president spoke about Ghana’s beauty and enviable religious tolerance, following the commissioning of the National Mosque in Accra on Friday.

The 15,000-seat multi-purpose mosque complex, funded by the Turkish government, was commissioned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Friday in the presence of a crowd of Christian leaders and the diplomatic community.

Speaking at the commissioning, Dr Bawumia observed that the sight of a Christian president commissioning a national mosque, in the presence of Christian leaders, showed the special nature of the country, Ghana.

“We thank Almighty Allah for this country, Ghana. It is a very special country. It is a country where a Christian president in office will come to order a national mosque. It is a very special country that we have, ”said Dr Bawumia.

“The president agreeing to come and command the mosque tells you so much about the president and so much about Ghana. Here we are, Muslims and Christians; with the Christian clergy – there are many here. It is Ghana, the land of peace and the land of religious tolerance.

With the construction of the National Cathedral underway, Vice President Bawumia looks forward to the day when Muslims across the country will also join with their Christian brethren in commissioning the National Cathedral.

“In shaa Allah, very soon we hope that we all come together, as we go to the National Cathedral Commission when it is finished, iIn shaa Allah. “

While the board of directors which oversaw the construction of the mosque praised Dr Bawumia for the immense role he played in the completion of the mosque, the vice president, in turn, acknowledged and commended President Akufo-Addo for his personal commitment to ensuring the success of the complex as well as other facilities around the mosque.

“I just want to note that thanks to his instructions, the NADMO route from the high tracks of Obasanjo took place. This road will eventually connect to Kanda to allow access to the mosque from Kanda.

“His Excellency the President also ordered that the parking lot of the National Mosque be paved and we see the sidewalk of this parking lot, which has taken place. He also requested that we provide an access road to connect the office complex of the Chief Imam to the NADMO road and this has been done.

The vice president also added that thanks to the intervention of the president, a contract was awarded for the construction of a footbridge on the Kanda highway to connect the Mamobi and Nima communities directly to the national mosque.
