"Outlander" Season 5 Premiere Date Delay – The Starz Series in 2020

The historic drama will not return until early 2020, Starz chief executive Jeffrey Hirsch said during the Television Critics Association's summer press tour on Friday.

Season 5 production kicked off in May and was narrated by a video showing the cast – including Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Duncan Lacroix, Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin – during an outdoor shoot that will be showcased in a next episode.

The delay is mainly due to planning on the network, said Hirsch.

"The decision that underlies everything we do with our programming schedule is obviously based on delivery schedules," he told reporters. "We are trying to have something on the air to serve this premium female audience. So we have some shows coming before that serve the Power public."

Hirsch mentioned another news announced at the committee meeting: PowerThe sixth and final season will be divided into two sections, the second of which will begin in early January.

Season 5 of Outlander will be based on the fifth of Diana Gabaldon's series of novels, in which the Fraser clan will settle in her homestead in North Carolina and where "the themes of home and family are still very central," said Heughan earlier this year. – With report by Vlada Gelman
