Andy Ruiz Jnr, from Southern California, became the first boxer of Mexican descent to win a heavyweight title by knocking out British star Anthony Joshua with a seventh-round Technical Knock Out (TKO) at Madison Square Garden.
Ruiz, 29, is now the world champion for IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweights.
Ruiz, who entered the ring as the oppressed was fighting with a big heart connecting his fury with heavy punches when returning from round 3 after visiting the canvas for the first time in his career.
His efforts yielded results by overthrowing Anthony Joshua twice in the same round.
Since then, Ruiz has never looked back and Anthony Joshua has never regained the strength for which he is known.
Ruiz fought Joshua fearlessly and dismantled him to provoke the biggest surprise of the heavyweight division in recent times after James "Buster" Douglas' victory in 1990 over "Iron" Mike Tyson.
After releasing Joshua in the fourth round, Ruiz (33-1, 22 KOs) continued his offense, causing two reversals in the seventh round. Referee Michael Griffin jumped to 1:27 to dismiss the fight while Joshua looked more stunned and weary. on his feet.
Ruiz could not hide his joy and he jumped into the festivities as the sold-out crowd, largely favorable to Anthony Joshua, was amazed.
"Great respect to Andy, great respect. [He’s a] good fighter. Thank you America. Thank you all for coming tonight. Sorry to have dropped my friends, sorry to have dropped my supporters, "said Joshua in an interview after his defeat.
Ruiz on the hand said, "I just want to thank God for giving me this victory. Without him it would not have been possible. That's what I dreamed about. That's why I work and I can not believe that I just realized my dreams.
